Website

Some people might say that having a website is not important.  I personally think that is BS.  How legitimate do you think a company is if they don’t have a website?
Can you see how a business owner might not like that? It doesn’t have to be anything too complicated or detailed.

Consider putting up a quick site using Homestead.  They include monthly hosting packages as well as a free domain so you don’t have to worry about buying a separate hosting package.  Also, you can set up a customer email account with them that is included in the package.  This might not seem to matter, but I know I instantly question the creditably of someone with a Gmail account that they are using for business purposes.  It’s because any and every one can set up a Gmail account, but when its yourname@yourwebsitename.com it instantly looks more professional.
Homestead is what I use for my websites and I have gotten a TON of compliments on them.  I’ll admit that they aren't the most elaborate sites in the world, but they get the job done and I made them myself pretty quick.
Here’s the thing with your own online presence. I not only have a website, but I created a blog and video about SEO and other services.  I’ve gotten a few of my clients who found my website and called.  It’s not very difficult (if you know SEO) to get your own site ranked against other SEO companies in the area.  Plus, it’s great to show potential customers that you were able to get your own site ranked against other people who offer this service.
I believe that it is important to own as many properties online as possible for your business. This would include a Facebook fanpage with a customer URL, a LinkedIn account, and YouTube videos. The more that a customer can find about your company, the more legitimate you will look.

How to : Logo

To me this is an absolute no brainer.  If you’re like me and not too creative when it comes to designing stuff, go to Fiverr.com.
Your logo is very important when it comes to branding.  You want people to see your logo and instantly know who you are.  Also, it makes you look a lot more professional if you have something that looks like it look a little bit of time to
create.

Company Name

Creating a good company name isn't that hard.  A lot of people take so much time and effort trying to figure out the perfect name.  Don’t over think it people!!
In reality, any name can be effective if it's backed by the appropriate marketing strategy. Here's what you'll need to consider in order to give your small business the most appropriate and effective name.Try to stick to something that is catchy but also explains what you and your company does.
Some examples:
  • (Your Last name) Marketing Consultants
  • (Your Last Name) Web Design
  • (Your Last Name) Media
  • Results SEO Services
Please don’t judge me on any of those ideas. I just thought of them in about 2 seconds, but you get what I’m trying to say.  Just realize that people won’t necessarily care what your name is, it just needs to be easy to remember and to the point.
Having a company name will make you look 10 times more official than the guy who just sells this stuff on the side and doesn't have a name. Or someone that uses their full name as a company name.  Remember, it’s all about branding you want something that’s going to stand out from the crowd.

you can use some free tools also to help you choose a good company name:

How to Overcome the “Age” Preconceptions

Overcoming age prejudices might be difficult. There are a few ways that you can try and overcome this problem.

  1. The first is to do a lot over the phone.  Pretty simple, right?  I have a couple clients that I have never met before and I have no idea what they even look like.  You can run an entire offline business over the phone.  Sounds a little weird, I know, but it’s true.
  2. Second, if you have to meet face to face you MUST dress and act very professional.  Bring a leather laptop bag/brief case with you to keep your cards and paper in.  Heck, it can even be empty if you want it to be, it’s really just there for looks.
  3. Third, know your stuff.  If you go to a meeting and blow the person out of their chair because of your knowledge they aren’t going to care how young you are.

How to Build Credibility

Building credibility in the offline world is extremely important. You want to be known as the person to go to when someone is looking for your particular service (or maybe any service).
Where do you start? You don’t have any clients and you feel that you need clients in order to get clients?
Well, there are a few things that you can do that will help you along.  I’ll list a few easy ways to do this:

  1. Write a Professional Article: A great way to build some credibility that doesn’t take very long is to write an article about something within your field that you are knowledgeable about and get it published on Ezine.  Being able to say that you have a “published article” on the world’s largest article directory sounds good to people who don’t have a clue about article directories.
  2. Build Client Base: Building your client base will be the easiest way to not only build credibility, but to build your confidence. Don’t be afraid to give away a service to a company so that you can then list them as a client on your website.  I have a “Clients” page on my website so that prospects won’t even have to ask me who I’ve worked with and trust me they will.  I’m not talking about giving away a website or something that will take you a lot to do. Maybe you could offer them optimization for their maps location or even create a simple slide show type video for their business without charge to start your “Client List”.
  3. Speaking Event: There are all kinds of small networking events that are going on all the time.  Ask the organizer of one of these events if you can be a guest speaker at their event.  Say that you got your start online and now you are looking to take your business offline to help small businesses.
  4. Looking the Part: Looking the part just means dressing professionally, acting professional and having the tools that make people perceive you as being a professional.

I have personally done each one of those and they all worked out very well for me and my company.  Now, I have a fairly large client base and don’t have to worry about this problem, but I remember that it was something that I thought a lot about when I just started building my own company.
